Special Cats for Special People
Adopting FIV Cats
Yes we can (!) match Special Cats to Special People
What is special about the cats listed below is that they suffer from FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus). What is special about the people is that they are willing to learn about FIV.
FIV does not in any way affect humans and the neutered FIV cats offered for adoption below will not endanger any resident cat in your home. Look at
This is just one of MANY articles you can find on this topic.
It is far more common that other resident, FIV negative cats pose a serious risk to the FIV positive cat. As the FIV cat's immune system is "off", small 'normal' infections passed on from other non FIV cats like diarrhoea, a cough or cold or ringworm (a fungal skin disease) become drawn out lengthy ailments which need monitoring, care, support and usually veterinary advice. With a FIV cat you need patience, time (!), love and a good, understanding vet.
However, the FIV positive cat knows it needs help. It will co-operate. And you will be touched and moved by the immense gratitude for your efforts. The bonding is intense and the trust is hugely rewarding.
Again, again we have found these special people. People who knowingly and willingly adopted older cats with FIV or other health risks. Perhaps because individual cats struck a chord. Perhaps because they were moved by their individual fate or suffering. Perhaps because they realised that they made a difference where nobody else was prepared to step in. Perhaps because they want to actively contribute towards a better, more compassionate world and set an example to others. Or because they are ardent cat lovers, but cannot stay away from home to support the caring done at the Sanctuary. So why not relieve us of one of our charges and thereby create space and care for the next stray or abandoned family cat?
All the cats listed here have a long story to tell. All suffer in one way or another, mostly from lack of individual human love which once experienced they still desperately crave. Some take regular medication, others get vitamins, homeopathic treatment, or just very high quality food. CSAF has an agreement with Happy Paws http://www.happypaws.org.mt/ and medical expenses (excluding emergencies outside normal clinic hours) can be covered.
