Lent is kitten time. Usually atime of little joy and much heartbreak. Starving kittens wait for mothers sqashed by cars. Well intentioned, but unaware tourists "rescue" babies whose mother will search and cry for them in unimaginable despair. Every spring Cat lovers from all over the island borrow traps and expertise to catch mother Cats before giving birth, so that litter AND mother will stay together and all will be neutered in due course.
Covid 19 provides quieter roads with less traffic so trapping becomes feasible,
more generous and caring people able to foster a feral mother Cat and offspring in their home (NOT an easy task, though in retrospect IMMENSELY rewarding) and - due to many people working from home - there is a greater demand for kittens to be fostered/adopted and patiently welcomed into their new surroundings.
Covid 19 brings out great kindness, imagination and perseverance in many people who all care for Cats in their individual and unique way. Cats so much value our love! Their gratitude is so very obvious for those able to discern.

How does Covid 19 affect the running of the Cats' sanctuary? In many, many ways it is business as usual, in many, many ways it is new, different, creative.
Some volunteers with a heavy heart are taking time out from caring with regard to family or their age. Others who cannot go to work at the moment regularly and reliably donate extra time to the Sanctuary.
The Cats all take it in their stride. They watch their carers come and go and they witness the departure of good friends. Young, much loved Nimbus represents all who crossed the rainbow bridge this March. Each cat departed is loved, mourned and missed!
The hopeful news : beautiful, super sensitive Simba found himself a home at last. Jo of Zabbar and Prince flew to Frankfurt and Heathrow respectively where their new owners collected them under challenging conditions. Abandoned house Cats and lucky kittens were adopted into new, happy lives despite the lock down. Cats realize that internet can be a very wonderful thing.

February was as ever emotional and turbulent. Cats found homes and Cats moved on. Two much loved, older residents Johann and Floyd (Mr Darcy) went across the rainbow bridge as well as sweet Ta Xbiex and friendly Damian. They go as if drawn to the light when nature awakes and the sun gathers strength.
Black and white Milo however, made it in this life: He found a matching human and a home. So did 10 year old Prince, who is preparing for his flight to the UK in a foster home. The prevailing February feeling is: HOPE
