A Brief History of CSAF
The CSAF cat sanctuary in Cospicua where we are now located was set up during the early months of 2014 by Ms Doris Zarb. The former premises were situated in Senglea on a rooftop of a historic building called Macina Needless. This sanctuary was exposed to natural elements and did not provide an adequate shelter for the cats especially in bad weather.
CSAF could never get the necessary permits to carry out any structural improvements because of the historic element pertaining to Macina. The only way forward was to move to an alternative site where CSAF could operate more efficiently and effectively. Thankfully, the Malta Government allocated an undeveloped area in Cospicua under terms of lease, and CSAF could finally embark on the construction of a new cat sanctuary.
The first priority was to clean the area as it had been practically reduced to a dump site. This laborious process could only be achieved manually since access to machinery is strictly prohibited. This place is located just outside the Cospicua bastions so it is also considered as a historically sensitive site.
